After too much rain in L.A., Super Bowl LV coming to Tampa

Los Angeles’ temporary loss is Tampa’s big gain, as the NFL announced Tuesday that Super Bowl LV in 2021 will played at Raymond James Stadium instead of the new stadium in L.A, according to NFL.com.

“Days after it was revealed the opening of the Rams and Chargers' joint stadium would be delayed by a year, league owners voted unanimously Tuesday to relocate the site of Super Bowl LV in 2021 from L.A. to Tampa's Raymond James Stadium, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported,” NFL.com stated.

The league last year awarded the Super Bowl to the yet-to-be-built stadium in Inglewood, Calif., but officials announced last week that because of extraordinarly wet conditions at the construction site the stadium would not be ready until the 2020 regular season, instead of in 2019 as originally planned.

The NFL requires stadiums to be open for two seasons before they can host a Super Bowl, unless owners approve a waiver.

The decision means Florida will host the Super Bowl both in 2020, in Miami, and in 2021 in Tampa.
