Michael Goddard earns first truck win at Desoto Speedway

BRADENTON -- Michael Goddard survived cautions and a challenge from Cody McDuffie and JR Garcia over the final 20 laps to earn his first win in a pro truck, capturing the 50-lap DART Spring Fling at Desoto Speedway on Saturday night.

"It was crazy out there and a little boring with all those cautions," Goddard said. "It's awesome and it's probably going to take awhile to sink in that I've won my first race."

The race featured four cautions, including two prompted by multiple-car wrecks. The worst incident was initiated when Chad Chastain made contact with Dean Butrum in turn three. In the wreck, Scott Hogan hit the wall nearly head-on. However, Hogan was uninjured.

Goddard started from the pole, thanks to a five-vehicle inversion, and led most of the way. Joe Winchell and Chastain rounded out the top five.

In Saturday's other feature events, Logan Leonard took advantage of two cautions in the 25-lap pure stock feature to pass Jimmie Best and Blaine Bair and earn the win. George Gorham Jr. went from third to first on the opening lap and went on to win the 30-lap sportsman feature; Joey Langis held off Cameron McGee to win the 25-lap legends feature; and Ren Wright III led all 25 laps of the mini stock feature.

After a week off, action returns to Desoto Speedway the weekend of April 22. That Friday features a food truck challenge and super late model practice session.

The race card on April 23 consists of super late models, DASS sportsman, pure stocks, street stocks, TQ midgets, bombers and dwarf cars.
