Rays, Pirates announce ticket, game promotions
As spring training gets underway across the region, multiple teams with ties to the area are releasing season details.
The Tampa Bay Rays announced single-game tickets for regular-season games will go on sale 10 a.m. Friday online at raysbaseball.com. Tickets will go on sale 10 a.m. Saturday via phone, 888-FAN-RAYS, and at the Tropicana Field box office.
The team also announced the signing of right-hander Ryan Webb to a one-year contract. Webb, 30, is a veteran of seven major league seasons. He spent last season with Cleveland. Webb is a native of Clearwater.
The Rays also announced their weekday specials lineup for the season. Active-duty military, retired and honorably discharged veterans can receive free tickets for Monday games.
For Tuesday games, kids 14 and under can qualify for $2 tickets. Wednesday games feature $2 hot dogs.
Thursday games feature a senior special, in which those 60 and older can purchase tickets for $15. It's the students' turn on Friday for $15 tickets.
To qualify, the student must be 18 or over and have a valid high school or college ID.
The Pittsburgh Pirates unveiled their new Sunday alternate uniform for the season, a replica of the uniform worn during Pittsburgh's 1979 World Series championship season.
The gold v-neck jersey, which was used from 1977-79, was one of the first in the club's history to display the player's name on the back.
The Sunday alternate uniform is the only change to the Pirates' uniform lineup this season.
The jersey and corresponding pillbox cap go on sale at McKechnie Field Friday. The McKechnie Field team stor is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
On Wednesday, the Bradenton Marauders announced regular-season tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m.
Tickets cost $10 (infield box/infield reserve), $8 (baseline box), and $6 (left-field bleachers). The Marauders open the season at 6:30 p.m. on April 9 against Fort Myers.
The McKechnie Field ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekends when there is no Pittsburgh Pirates spring training home game.
On Pirate game days, the ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 30 minutes following the last out.
Among the recurring weekly promotions this year are Family Fun Sundays, Thirsty Thursdays and Saturday Baseball Bingo.
