BRADENTON -- On Tuesday, the Pirates begin spring training for real with a game against the Detroit Tigers in Lakeland, but Monday's game was for the kids of Manatee County.

The Pirates played 5 1/2 innings in the annual Black and Gold intrasquad game, and Team Gold beat Team Black 4-3 in a contest that raised money for the Manatee Public School Foundation, Wakeland Elementary School and G.D. Rogers Garden Elementary School.

A total of 3,359 people paid the $8 general admission charge to see the 2016 Pirates for the first time and help the cause, and they had a beautiful day to enjoy baseball, with a temperature of 72 degrees.

Team Gold starting pitcher Jameson Taillon faced nine batters and gave up a run while strikin gout three. Team Black's Tyler Glasnow faced seven batters, striking out two while giving up two runs.

Lefthander Steven Brault faced six batters for Team Black, and retired all of them, and Team Gold winning pitcher Trevor Williams pitched two perfect innings.

Centerfielder Danny Ortiz was an offensive star for Team Gold, going 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Matt Joyce played left field for Team Black and went 1 for 2 with an RBI double.
