Marauders 5, Mets 1

The Bradenton Marauders (54-47) scored four times in the eighth inning to erase a late 1-0 deficit and stun the St. Lucie Mets (53-47) 5-1 on Thursday night at Tradition Field. After dropping the opener on Tuesday 6-3, Bradenton held the Mets to one run over the final two games to win the series.

Jordan Luplow hit an RBI double to tied the game 1-1, Chase Simpson gave the Marauders the lead for good with a two-RBI single and Erik Lunde added an RBI fielder’s choice to cap the four-run eighth. Tito Polo added some insurance in the ninth with a solo homer.

Henry Hirsch (5-2) fired two scoreless innings to earn the victory. Junior Lopez struck out the side in the ninth.

Mets starter Scarlyn Reyes tallied 10 strikeouts and scattered four hits over 6 1/3 innings. Bradenton starter Stephen Tarpley surrendered one run on a solo homer in the fourth. Tarpley struck out five and walked two.

Up next: The Marauders play a doubleheader against the host Daytona Tortugas on Friday; game one starts at 5:05 p.m.
