Bradenton Marauders outslug Palm Beach Cardinals for 8-6 win

JUPITER – The Bradenton Marauders (35-22, 67-60) used a 14-hit attack to seize an 8-6 win over the South Division leading Palm Beach Cardinals (38-19, 70-57) at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday night.

CF Austin Meadows made a sliding catch in center field on a line drive off the bat of Luke Voit to end a furious Cardinals comeback in the bottom of the ninth. The win moves Bradenton back within three games of first place in the South Division.

LHP Cody Dickson (W, 11-6) earned his 11th win and his third against Palm Beach this season. Four Marauders pitchers teamed to issue zero walks in the game while striking out six.

The Cardinals closed an 8-3 gap to 8-4 with the bases loaded and one out when RHP Montana DuRapau was summoned to replace RHP Isaac Sanchez. DuRapau threw two wild pitches while striking out Collin Radack for the second out. One run scored on each wild pitch, but DuRapau was spared further trouble by Meadows’ defensive gem.

Meadows also went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI. 1B Jordan Steranka drove in three runs.

The Marauders play Game 2 of the series against Palm Beach at 6:35 p.m. at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter. RHP Felipe Gonzalez will be on the mound for the Marauders while Palm Beach has LHP Corey Littrell slated to throw.
