Bradenton Marauders stun Lakeland Flying Tigers for win in second game of twin bill
The Bradenton Marauders (26-39) plated three runs in the seventh and four in the 11th to stun the Flying Tigers 9-5 in game two of Thursday’s doubleheader. Lakeland won game one 7-6 on a walk-off home run by Stephen Moya off Robbie Kilcrease (L, 2-1). Bradenton tailed into the seventh inning of both games, but rallied to tie the score in each. Facing a 5-2 deficit in the second game, Jose Osuna worked a one-out walk against Alex Burgos to start the rally. Willy Garcia doubled Osuna to third. An infield single by Elias Diaz plated one run and a fielder’s choice grounder by Chris Lashmet cut the lead to one. Eric Avila crushed a two-out triple to tie the game and send it to extras. Emmanuel De Leon (W, 2-0) pitched four scoreless innings for the win. In the 11th, Brennan Smith (L, 0-1) entered after having pitched two innings last night in a Lakeland win. Smith allowed four runs on five hits to take the loss. Alen Hanson went 3-for-8 between the two games, including a home run in his first at-bat of game one. Dan Gamache finished the night with three doubles. Melvin Mercedes (W, 3-0) blew the save in game one for the Flying Tigers, but received the win after Moya’s big fly. Robby Rowland did not allow an earned run in his start for the Marauders, but left a 4-4 game after five innings due to three Marauders defensive errors. The Marauders committed six more errors in their game two win.Bradenton’s win evens their record in extra-inning games to 3-3. Lakeland’s nine-game winning streak was snapped by their game-two loss. The Marauders pick up play after the All-Star Break with a three-game road trip to Jupiter to face the Hammerheads. The first game is at 6:30 p.m. Monday night
