Cardinals pitchers shut down Marauders

Jose Martinez singled three times, and Ramon Santos allowed just three hits over six innings as the Palm Beach Cardinals beat the Bradenton Marauders 3-0 on Saturday.

Santos (4-3) struck out five and walked two to pick up the win.

In the bottom of the second, Palm Beach grabbed the lead on a single by Martinez that scored Blake Drake. The Cardinals then added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Drake hit an RBI double, while Vince Jackson scored on a forceout in the seventh.

Bret Helton (8-2) went six innings for the Marauders, allowing two runs and seven hits to take the tough loss in the Florida State League game. He also struck out four and walked one.

Palm Beach’s Jordan Hicks retired the side in order for his first save of the season.

The Marauders were blanked for the sixth time this season, while the Cardinals’ staff recorded their 13th shutout of the year.
