Tortugas take down Marauders to split series
Chris Okey hit a two-run homer in the second inning, leading the Daytona Tortugas to a 2-1 win over the Bradenton Marauders on Thursday.
Joel Bender got Mitchell Tolman to ground out with a runner on first to end the game for his first save of the season.
The home run by Okey scored James Vasquez to give the Tortugas a 2-0 lead.
The Marauders cut into the deficit in the fourth inning when Kevin Krause hit an RBI double, driving in Ke’Bryan Hayes.
Daytona southpaw Seth Varner (1-2) picked up the win after allowing one run on eight hits over five innings. Opposing starter Cam Vieaux (3-5) took the tough loss in the after giving up two runs and six hits over seven innings.
Hayes doubled and singled for the Marauders.
With the win, the Tortugas earned a split of the four-game series.
