Lakeland’s Gibson hits for cycle
Cam Gibson hit for the cycle as the Lakeland Flying Tigers pounded the Bradenton Marauders 13-3 on Monday night in their series opener.
Gibson singled in the second, doubled in the fourth, homered in the sixth, tripled in the sixth, and singled in the eighth.
Trailing 2-0, the Flying Tigers took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. Will Allen hit an RBI single and then scored on a double by Gibson en route to the one-run lead.
Lakeland later scored in three additional innings, including a seven-run sixth, when Gibson hit a solo home run and Junnell Ledezma hit a solo homer to help put the game away.
Lakeland right-hander Sandy Baez (4-7) picked up the win after allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings. Bradenton starter Cam Vieaux (3-4) took the loss. He allowed six runs and 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Mitchell Tolman homered and singled for the Marauders, and Casey Hugston added a triple.
