Marauders take nightcap in walk-off win
Jordan George belted a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Ke’Bryan Hayes raced home on an errant throw in the bottom of the 11th after stealing third, and the Bradenton Marauders fought back Monday night for a 5-4 win over the Florida Fire Frogs.
The Fire Frogs were two outs away from completing a two-game sweep of the Marauders on Monday after they prevailed 3-1 in the resumption of Sunday’s rain-delayed contest.
But George, the designated hitter, crushed a line drive in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. Two innings later, Hayes walked to start the frame and moved to second on a fielder’s choice. Hayes then stole third base, his 22nd theft of the year, and scored when the catcher’s throw sailed into the outfield.
Earlier Monday in the suspended game, the Frogs broke a 1-1 time when play resumed in the top of the sixth inning after Anfernee Seymore stole home. The Frogs added an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Carlos Castro homered on a line drive to left field.
The games featured a rehab assignment by Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte, who is preparing to return to the parent club after being suspended 80 games for using a banned substance. Marte was 1 for 3 with a run and a strikeout in the suspended game, and he was 0 for 3 with strikeout in Game 2.
