Threshers edge Marauders 3-1
Emmanuel Marrero hit a run-scoring single in the second inning, leading the Clearwater Threshers to a 3-1 win over the Bradenton Marauders on Monday.
Deivi Grullon scored on the play to give the Threshers a 1-0 lead after he reached base with a single, advanced to second on a single by Herlis Rodriguez and then went to third on a flyout.
After Clearwater added a run in the third on a single by Damek Tomscha, the Marauders cut into the deficit in the fourth inning when Ke'Bryan Hayes scored on a ground out.
The Threshers tacked on another run in the fourth when Drew Stankiewicz scored on a sacrifice.
Bradenton missed a scoring opportunity in the fifth, when Will Craig struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
Clearwater right-hander Franklyn Kilome (4-2) picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits over five innings. Opposing starter Bret Helton (3-1) took the loss in the Florida State League game after giving up three runs and eight hits over four innings. Jeff Singer retired the side in order for his 13th save of the season.
With the win, Clearwater improved to 4-1 against Bradenton this season.
