Late rally lifts Hammerheads over Marauders
The Bradenton Marauders (29-21) surrendered two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and fell 2-1 to the Jupiter Hammerheads (18-31) on Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
Bradenton starter Taylor Hearn was sensational through seven innings, striking out seven and not allowing a runner beyond first base.
Brian Schales started Jupiter’s comeback with a one-out single off reliever Jake Brentz. A Bradenton error on a potential double-play grounder by Rodrigo Vigil put men on the corners. Brentz balked to tie the game 1-1.
Bradenton did not record an out on a fielder’s choice that put men back on the corners, and Kyle Barrett was able to beat out a potential double-play grounder for the game-winning RBI.
Catcher Christian Kelley drove in Bradenton’s only run in the top of the seventh. Kelley also threw two runners out at second base.
The teams wrap up their series on Sunday.
