After spending more than two decades at Bradenton Christian, Scott Townsend isn’t going too far for his next coaching gig.

He’s joining the staff at New College of Florida as an assistant basketball coach and the head coach of NCF’s reserve program, the school said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Townsend announced his departure from BCS on the social media platform in mid-March. His roots run deep with the Panthers. Townsend went to school at BCS before coaching at the school as an assistant under Dave Magley and later as its head coach.

In 13 years as the Panthers’ head coach, Townsend’s teams won seven district titles, reached two regional final games and were the 2016 Class 2A state runner-up.

Townsend’s last season with the Panthers resulted in a regional quarterfinal appearance. BCS fell to Fort Myers Gateway Charter, 83-68, in the Class 3A region quarterfinals.
