Palmetto beats Inspiration Academy 12-9
Hunter Finner was a one-man wrecking crew for Palmetto on Thursday in its 12-9 beating of Inspiration Academy on Thursday. He was 3 for 4 with a two-run homer and a two-run triple, and he also got the save as the pitcher. Palmetto improved to 13-7. Other hitters included Jacob Josey, who was 2 for 3 with a two-run RBI double, and Tyler Henning, who was 2 for 2 with an RBI. Palmetto's next game is at Inspiration on Friday.
MANATEE 11, southeast 3 -- Garrett Richeelieu had five RBIs on two doubles as Manatee beat Southeast. Manatee (7-13) also got help from Chris Lehman, who was 2 for 4 with a double and triple, and Eric Crawford, who was 2 for 4 with a double, and also was the winning pitcher. Manatee plays next Thursday in Orlando against Timber Creek.
ODA 12, SHOREcrest 4 -- Najee Rhodes was 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBIs as Out-of-Door Academy beat Shorecrest 12-4 in baseball action on Thursday. Winning pitcher Duncan Cappar pitched three innings and struck out three as ODA improved its overall record to 17-3. Austin Brinling added offensive punch by going 3 for 3 with a double, Parke Phillips went 2 for 3 with a triple and Alex DiMore was 2 for 2. The Thunder's next game is Thursday at Northside Christian.
Prep softball
BRADEN RIVER 11, SARASOTA 3 -- Myah May was 4 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI and winning pitcher Ali Yawn threw a complete game as the Pirates beat the Sailors.
Braden River (15-2) also had offensive help from Sarah Crawford, who was 2 for 2 with a home run, two walks and two RBIs, and Bethany Keen, who was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Pirates' next game ia Friday at Brandon High School. It's also their last district game.
BAYSHORE 4, SOUTHEAST 0 -- Bayshore pitcher Miriam Schmoll and Southeast (8-9) hurler Rebecca Boesen combined to strike out 30 batters in a pitcher's duel. Two of the Bruins' runs were earned in the game, which saw Schmoll strike out 14 and Boesen, who also was 2 for 3 at the plate, strike out 16, and give up three walks.
Bayshore's JoJo Muldoun was 2 for 4.
JUCO softball
SCF 7-7, POLK ST. 4-4 -- State College of Florida improved to 25-10 overall and 9-3 in the conference by taking a twin bill from Polk State College by identical scores of 7-4.
In the first game, Kayla Maxwell took the win for a record of 11-5. Janice Harney was 3 for 3, Brandi Bunker was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Casey Simmons was 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs.
Jessica Reid (14-4) was the winning pitcher in the second game, in which Erica Ward was 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBIs, and Harney was again 3 for 3 with a homer and 3 RBIs.
SCF's next games are at Pasco-Hernando State College, another twin bill at 1 and 3 p.m.
