St. Stephen's baseball crushes Imagine North Port 8-3
ST. STEPHEN'S 8, IMAGINE NORTH PORT 3 -- All nine starters got hits as the Falcons (9-7, 7-6 conference) beat Imagine North Port at home on Thursday. Ben Tobio was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and Jake Westberry also went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Caleb Eyre was the winning pitcher in relief, tossing 3 scoreless innings, walking 1 and striking out 2. The Falcons' next game is a doubleheader on Monday. They'll play Calvary Christian at 2 p.m. in the ODA Tournament, and Cardinaly Mooney at 4:30 p.m. in the Taylor Emmons Tournament.
Bayshore 9, Bradenton Christian 6 -- Tyler Spencer went 2 for 3 and Edwin Crespo went 2 for 4 as host Bayshore (5-11) ended a seven-game losing streak. Reliever Jared Richardson pitched four innings for the win and scored twice. D.J. McCarty reached base three times and scored twice while Ryan Gagliano hit a two-run homer in the sixth. Bayshore, which scored five runs in the fifth, next plays at Booker on Tuesday, 7 p.m..
Palmetto 11, Booker 1 -- Jacob Josey allowed one hit over six innings and struck out three for the win against host Booker. Tyler Henning went 3 for 3 with an RBI double, and Alden Blaney went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs. Brandon Lam added two hits for Palmetto (11-7), which next plays at Lake Placid on Friday, 7 p.m.
JUCO Tennis
SCF 5, BROWARD 4 -- The State College of Florida women's tennis team, ranked No 7, upset No. 6 Broward on Thursday. Their record is now 6-4. Winners in singles were Maria Medina, Julia Sergheeva and Amiena Houston. Doubles winners were Medina and Sergheeva, and Houston and Maria Zubjova. The next match is Friday at home against No. 14 Eastern at 2 p.m.
JUCO BASEBALL
SCF 17, Hillsborough CC 7 -- Jose Lopez went 2 for 3, including a grand slam, and drove in seven to lead host SCF (21-12, 6-5). Ethan Skender finished 3 for 5, including a three-run homer as part of his 4 RBI day. SCF, which finished with 11 hits, plays at Hillsborough on Saturday. Reliever Hunter McGarry earned the win.
