BCS no-hitter silences Imagine

BRADENTON -- Rob Arakel and Duncan Sikema combined on a no-hitter in Bradenton Christian's 6-0 victory against North Port Imagine in high school baseball on Tuesday.

Rob Arakel earned the win with 4 1/3 innings pitched. He walked five. Sikema finished and didn't allow a base runner.

A.J. Schewe went 2 for 3, including a double, and two runs scored. Brycen Rogers finished 2 for 2 and

Arakel added two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases for the Panthers (4-5), who return to action Thursday at Northside Christian.

Braden River 1, Lennard 0 -- Tyler Dyson allowed only a sixth-inning single while leading the host Pirates. Dyson struck out nine and walked none. Brian Dillingham drove in Braden River's run with a two-out double in the third. Cole Tencosky scored from second. Gavin Root finished 2 for 2 for the Pirates (7-2, 6-1 Class 7A-District 9).

ODA 1, Indian Rocks Christian 0 -- Brady Moore led off the ninth inning with a double and scored when Indian Rocks threw wildly to first base on Cooper Newlin's bunt single to lift the Thunder (10-2, 9-1 Class 3A-District 5). The run made a winner of Duncan Cappar, who pitched three hitless innings. Cameron Smalley pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits, in the no-decision. Parke Phillips and Moore both went 2 for 4, including a double. Indian Rocks is the only district team to beat ODA this season. The Thunder play host to Admiral Farragut Academy on Thursday.

Southeast 2, Bayshore 1 -- Jared Cook allowed three hits in the complete-game win for the hosts. He struck out four. Kyle Metters drove in the tying run, and he came around to score the winning on a wild pitch. Southeast (3-4, 3-2 Class 5A, District 11) plays host to Lemon Bay on Wednesday.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 6, SHORECREST 5 -- The Falcons (6-5, 4-4 Class 3A, District 5) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 4 and scored two in the bottom of the seventh to win. J.T. Lundy went 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Trevor Donnelly and Ben Tobio both doubled. Winning pitcher Nick Runde threw a complete game, giving up four hits and four walks, to earn his fourth win. Saint Stephen's next game is Monday at home against Northside Christian.

Girls tennis

Southeast 7, Booker 0 -- Co-captains Madelyn Kumar and Daria Muklewicz led visiting Southeast's shutout. Kumar won 8-7 in tiebreaker while Muklewicz won 8-1. Southeast (4-6) next plays Wednesday at Braden River.

Bayshore 4, Palmetto 3 -- Theo Schultz, Ava Schultz and Cailyn Finnegan swept the top three singles to pace visiting Bayshore. Theo Schultz, Cailyn Finnegan, at No. 3 singles, earned the remaining point.

No. 1 Theo Schultz and Cailyn Finnegan combined to win at No. 1 doubles. Daniele Grutzner, Justina Calhoun and the No. 2 doubles team of Daniele Grutzner and Gizelle Macias won for Palmetto.

Softball

Braden River 17, Lennard 0 -- The host Pirates drew 11 walks in a game shortened to three innings. Kally Martin went 2 for 2 with a double. Bethaney Keen doubled and drew two walks. Casey Farrow doubled and drove in three. Brooke Farrow also doubled. Winning pitcher Ali Yawn allowed two hits and struck out five. The Pirates (11-0, 7-0 Class 7A District 9) next play Wednesday at Sarasota Riverview.

JUCO Softball

SCF 1-2, Florida Southwestern 3-1 -- Jessica Harney's two-run single in the sixth inning helped SCF gain a split in its conference opening doubleheader. Harney finished 2 for 3 in the second game to make a winner out of Jessica Reid (10-3). She also went 2 for 3 in the opener, a 3-1 loss. SCF (17-8) plays at Polk on Thursday.
