Local roundup | Out-of-Door baseball suffers first loss against Indian Rocks Christian

Out-of-Door Academy's unbeaten start to the baseball season ended with a 3-2 loss to Indian Rocks Christian in Largo on Thursday.

Duncan Cappar allowed two runs in four innings of relief to take the loss for the Thunder. Nick Saranczak, Trenton Radigan and Brady Moore provided the offense for ODA (6-1, 5-1 Class 3A-District 5) with a pair of hits each.

Out-of-Door returns home Monday for another district game against Imagine School of North Port.

Boys tennis

SAINT STEPHEN'S 6, LAKEWOOD RANCH 1 -- The Mustangs won their lone point in No. 1 singles, but the Falcons took the final four spots and both doubles categories to top Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton. Anthony Pistella earned his win for Lakewood Ranch without dropping a game, and No. 4 Noah Van Dyke picked up the biggest victory for Saint Stephen's after dropping just one game in the first set. Dimitry Spiridonov, Saint Stephen's No. 2, won (6-2, 6-0), No. 3 Neo Cho won (6-1, 6-3), and No. 5 Alex Siegal won (6-2, 6-4). The Falcons return to the court Wednesday with another home match against Sarasota Military Academy in Bradenton. The Mustangs get two full weeks off before traveling to Palmetto on March 10.

SARASOTA 6, MANATEE 1 -- Tristan Hall, the Hurricanes' No. 4 player, accounted for their only point with his win against the Sailors in Bradenton. Manatee (3-3) will try to climb back above .500 on Tuesday when it hosts Sarasota Riverview in Bradenton.

Girls tennis

BAYSHORE 4, BRADEN RIVER 3 -- The Bruins' No. 1 doubles team of Theo and Ava Schultz won the final match of the day 8-1 to help BHS edge the Pirates. The Schultz sisters also won their two singles matches to provide three of Bayshore's four points. The Bruins' No. 2 doubles team of Cailin Finnegan and Magide Joseph won its match 8-3. Larissa LaBolt, Aubrey Wright and Karissa Bolle won matches for Braden River. BHS (5-0) returns to the court Monday when it hosts Arcadia DeSoto County in Bradenton.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 6, LAKEWOOD RANCH 1 -- The Mustangs forfeited a pair of matches and the Falcons breezed to a win against Ranch in Bradenton. Sabina Budova and Alysia Serterides earned the victories for Saint Stephen's, and Grace Hagopian, Lakewood Ranch's No. 1, scored the lone point for the Mustangs. Ranch stays on the road Wednesday with a match against Southeast. Saint Stephen's returns to the court the next day with a trip to Sarasota to face Riverview.

MANATEE 7, SARASOTA 0 -- All five Hurricane singles players won in straight sets and both doubles team won their pro sets 8-0 to shut out the Sailors in Sarasota. Grayson Hall, the Canes' top singles player, and No. 5 Amelia Stern each won 6-0, 6-0, and the other three dropped only one game apiece. Manatee (4-1) returns to the court Tuesday against Riverview in Sarasota.

Softball

LAKEWOOD RANCH 10, PALMETTO 1 -- Kailey Christian struck out nine batters in a four-hitter to help the Mustangs rout the Tigers at home. Kinsey Goelz belted her second and third home runs of the season, giving Ranch (9-1, 4-0 Class 8A-District 8) 12 as a team this year. Logan Newton added a pair of doubles and three RBIs for Lakewood Ranch. PHS returns to Palmetto on Saturday to host Mulberry. The Mustangs travel to Bradenton on Tuesday for a district game against Manatee.

Junior college baseball

COLLEGE OF CENTRAL FLORIDA 6, STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 3 -- Central Florida chased SCF starter Ronny Orta after 2 1/3 innings and doubled up the Manatees to split a home-and-home with a win in Ocala. Outfielder Keshawn Lynch was SCF's only player with multiple hits, and went 3 for 4 with a double and home run. Outfielders Reilly Johnson and Michael Gizzi both drove in runs for the Manatees. SCF (11-6) travels to Tampa on Tuesday for the first game of a home-and-home with the University of Tampa junior varsity team.
