Falcons topple Indian Rocks Christian in prep baseball

The Saint Stephen's Falcons picked up a 5-3 win at home over the Indian Rock Christian Eagles in high school baseball Saturday.

Stating pitcher Nick Runde went the distance, scattering six hits over seven innings and allowed no earned runs.

Ben Tobio was 1 for 2 with a sacrifice bunt, two runs scored and two stolen bases, and Jake Westberry was 1 for 3 with a two-run double for the Falcons (2-3). Saint Stephen's plays Tuesday at Northside Christian.

Track and field

SPOTO SPARTAN INVITATIONAL -- Members of the Manatee boys and girls track teams competed Saturday in the annual tournament at Spoto High in Riverview, and the boys finished second overall.

Kavious Price was first in the 100 with a time of 10.6, and Keyon Dordham was second. The 400-meter relay team of Keyon Fordham, Darante Copeland, Lorenz Allen and Price won with a time of 42.2.

Colin Rottes won the 800 in 2:01, and Seth Walter won the discus and was second in the shot put. Chase Main was second in the high jump, and the 4-by-200 relay team of Javaris Pollock, Aryn Wrona, Scott Voltaire, and Sir Williams finished second.

On the women's side, Sydney Britt was second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:34.

JUCO baseball

TALLAHASSEE -- The State College of Florida Manatees produced 17 runs over two games but couldn't contain the bats of the host Tallahassee Community College Eagles in contests on Friday and Saturday.

SCF fell 11-10 in Friday night's game but had some big contributors behind the plate including Richie Riveria (2 for 4, RBI, triple, three runs scored); Garrett Hall (1 for 3, two RBIs); Tyler Ronanik (2 for 5, two RBIs); Keshawn Lynch (2 for 4, RBI); and Kevin Buckley, who had a home run and three RBIs.

The Manatees dropped Saturday's game against the Eagles 14-7. Leading the offense were Ronanik (3 for 5, two-run homer); Rivera (1 for 5, RBI); Jared Pruett (two RBIs); and Buckley (RBI).

The Manatees (10-5) return to action Monday at home against the College of Central Florida Patriots.

JUCO tennis

ASA COLLEGE 7, SCF 2 -- The host State College of Florida Manatees fell to the Miami-based Silver Storm in a women's match Saturday. The Manatees are ranked fouth in the nation. ASA is ranked No. 1 and is going for its third consecutive national championship.

SCF winners included No. 2 singles player Iulia Sergheeva (ranked No. 4 in the nation) who won 6-2, 7-5. The No. 1 doubles team of Maria Medina and Iulia Sergheeva (ranked No. 6) beat last year's national champs 8-6.

SCF's record is 2-1, and ASA is 6-0. SCF plays at No. 5-ranked St. Pete College at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
