Prep roundup: Hester leads way as Ranch clinches top seed
Lakewood Ranch secured the No. 1 seed in Class 7A-District 11 with a 77-59 victory at Palmetto on Tuesday.
Sam Hester led the Mustangs with 20 points, and Damien Gordon finished with 11.
Lakewood Ranch scored 55 second-half points, including 35 in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs led by only five after three quarters.
Devin Twenty finished with eight points, five assists, three rebounds, three steals while Jack Kelly contributecd a team-high 10 rebounds.
Lakewood Ranch (16-4, 7-0) wraps up district play Friday at Braden River.
Tre Clark's 36 points, including seven 3-pointers, led Palmetto. Kyle Edwards added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Braden River 59, Sarasota 42 -- Deoni Cason scored 16 of his team-high 19 points in the first half to lead the host Pirates (11-8, 4-3), who opened a 34-10 halftime lead. Tyler Dyson, Parker Golemo, Brandon Dunbar and Jordan Curtis finished with eight points each. Dyson added 17 rebounds. Braden River returns to action today at home against Manatee.
INDIAN ROCKS CHRISTIAN 50, SAINT STEPHEN'S 40 -- Jordon Edwards scored 19 and collected five rebounds to lead the host Falcons (5-14, 3-7), who visit Calvary Christian on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Jordon Murrell eight points, four rebounds, four steals
SOUTHEAST 66, MANATEE 54 -- Corey Davis led four Seminoles into double figures with 14 points in the nondistrict victory at home. Jonathan Colon (12 points), Tre Alexandrea (10) and Keives Brooks (10) contributed to the balanced attack. Southeast (13-7) returns to district action when it plays host to St. Petersburg Lakewood on Friday.

Lakewood Ranch 42 Palmetto 30 -- Seniors Luis Tremblay-Vidal (170 pounds) and Dylan Cameron (132) celebrated senior night with pins to lead the host Mustangs to a dual-match victory. Also recording pins were sophomore Antonio Perez (113), junior Hunter Reed (120) and junior Logan Bounds (182). Lakewood Ranch returns to action Saturday at the Gene Gorman tournament at Charlotte in Punta Gorda.
Girls basketball
LAKEWOOD RANCH 58, BAYSHORE 21 -- Kailyn Scully scored 13 points and Elise Spiller added 11 to lead the Mustangs (19-4, 8-0 Class 7A, District 11) against the host Bruins. Spiller also finished with six steals and three rebounds. Scully added three steals and three assists. Lakewood Ranch plays host to North Port on Wednesday at 7:30 for senior night.
Southeast 56, Sarasota 47 -- Kay Green scored 12 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter, including four free throws late, to lead the visiting Seminoles (18-3), including nine wins in a row. Sarasota led 38-36 after three quarters.
Despite playing with four fouls the entire fourth quarter, Breyonna Reed added 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Marline Valcin nine points and 10 rebounds. Southeast plays host to Boca Ciega on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in a rescheduled game.
