Prep Roundup | Lakewood Ranch's girls soccer team picks up another shutout victory

Lakewood Ranch's girls soccer team produced its 10th clean sheet of the season with a 1-0 victory over visiting Venice on Tuesday.

Faith Schyck had the lone goal in the 55th minute off a corner from Maria Gonzalez as the Mustangs ran their record to 13-1-0.

Her header produced the lone tally in a 24-shot effort, while Nicole Wurster and Julia Ortiz clogged the middle for the back four that yielded just six shots.

The Mustangs host Cardinal Mooney on Thursday for their senior night.

Ranch awaits what seed it will get in next week's district tournament, due to being tied with Manatee so far. The Mustangs open up that tournament next Tuesday, while the final is slated for Thursday at the highest remaining seed.

PALMETTO 5, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 2 -- Natalie Gorji and Kat Pacitti were the lone goal scorers for the Thunder in a non-district away loss.

Boys basketball

BAYSHORE 82, SOUTHEAST 69 -- The Bruins captured a home district game behind Jaylen Pauley (22 points), Denny Dessin (18 points), Vernard Brown II (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Bonna Baker (11 points) producing double-digit scoring games. The Bruins ran their ledger to 9-8 overall, while upping their district record to 3-4. Southeast's Ronald Taylor led the Seminoles with 16 points. Corey Davis (12 points) and Alex Taylor (11 points) also finished in double figures.

Bayshore stays at home for Wednesday's game with St. Petersburg Gibbs. JV: Southeast 57, Bayshore 47.

PALMETTO 69, MANATEE 33 -- The Tigers' Tre Clark (15 points) and Jason Spicer (10 points) led Palmetto to a blowout victory. The Tigers (8-9) led 56-17 at the half. The Tigers travel to Venice on Friday for their next game.

Boys soccer

PALMETTO 2, SOUTHEAST 0 -- The Tigers picked up the road victory with two goals in the second half of Tuesday's non-district match. Freddy Manriquez and Jorge Morales tallied the goals off assists from Candido Calvillo. Howie Sanders notched one save to record the clean sheet for Palmetto, who improved to 10-7-1. The Tigers don't get much rest as they travel to Saint Stephen's on Wednesday for another non-district match.

Girls basketball

SOUTHEAST 47, BAYSHORE 28 -- The host Seminoles (14-3 overall, 6-1 district) peeled off a district victory using their starters for just one half. Breyonna Reed (20 points) and Shauntavia Green (eight points) paced the Noles. Bayshore's JoJo Muldoon led the Bruins, who polished off their third straight Smoothie King Classic girls title last week, with 13 points. Southeast travels to unbeaten and state-ranked St. Petersburg Lakewood on Thursday for its next game. Lakewood handed the Noles their lone district loss earlier this year. JV: Southeast 35, Bayshore 7.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 52, SARASOTA 30 -- LaDazhia Williams (17 points, six rebounds, four steals) paced the Mustangs (15-4 overall, 6-0 district) to stay unbeaten in Class 7A-District 11 on Tuesday. Junior Aleah Robinson (14 points, six rebounds, four steals) and senior Elise Spiller (11 points, five rebounds, two steals) also contributed to the win. Ranch returns to action Thursday for a non-district game at Palm Harbor University.
