Prep roundup: Scully, Williams lead Lakewood Ranch High past Sarasota
Ranch girls steamroll Sarasota
Senior Kailyn Scully scored a game-high 17 points with four rebounds and four steals, while LaDazhia Williams returned to action and had 16 points, six steals and three blocked shots in Lakewood Ranch's 56-19 girls basketball win over visiting Sarasota on Thursday.
The Mustangs (6-2, 2-0) return to action Friday at Manatee.
PALMETTO 48, MANATEE 22 -- The host Tigers were led by Tina Stephens and Taylor Rozier, who each scored 19 points.
Palmetto (8-2) visits Venice on Tuesday. The Tigers also topped the Canes in the JV game, 26-22.
Boys basketball
BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 97, GULF COAST HEAT 40 -- The Panthers got double-digit points from four players, including a double-double from Alex Telfair in a home rout.
Telfair dropped 15 points and 10 assists. Ryan Leunk led all scorers with 22 points. Dominic Otteni added 14 points for BCS (6-2), while Trent Bell chipped in 12 points. Vincent Rehfeldt tallied 13 assists and nine points.
Gulf Coast was led by Ryan Summers, who scored 12 points, and Jackson Spark, who notched 11.
VENICE 65, BRADEN RIVER 53 -- The host Pirates rallied all the way back from an 11-point halftime deficit, then Venice pulled away again in the fourth quarter to win both teams' district opener.
Deoni Cason and Tyler Dyson each had 14 points for the Pirates, while Dyson added eight rebounds. Brandon Dunbard added 10 points for Braden River (4-2, 0-1), which visits Palmetto next Friday.
SHORECREST PREP 86, SAINT STEPHEN'S 34 -- The Falcons committed 27 turnovers in a blowout loss.
Jake Westberry led the way with 10 points and nine boards for Saint Stephen's (1-4, 0-1) which plays another district game Friday night at home against Indian Rocks Christian.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 8, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 0 -- The host Falcons clinched the regular-season district title with a shutout win, led by Alex Virgilio's two goals.
Noah LaBelle, Jon Boyd and Ben Whorf each had a goal and two assists, while Cline Burgess, Kevin Zandomenego and Andrew Csubak each scored a goal.
Chase Thornton and Daniel Eisenman each notched an assist for Saint Stephen's (4-0-2, 3-0), which next plays Tuesday at Lakewood Ranch.
PALMETTO 3, VENICE 3 -- Tynon Dolan scored the equalizer with 5 minutes remaining as the Tigers rallied for a draw against the visiting, first-place Indians.
Dolan also had an assist for Palmetto, while Domingo Diaz and Frankie Arroyo each scored a goal. Candido Calvillo added an assist for the Tigers (4-4-1, 2-2-1) who return to action Tuesday at Charlotte.
Girls soccer
SAINT STEPHEN'S 4, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 2 -- The visiting Panthers improved significantly from their 5-0 loss in the two teams' first meeting this season, tying the match up at 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining, then the Falcons pulled away.
Senior Maddy Valadie notched a pair of goals for BCS, while Maddy Allen had an assist. Rayna Smith turned away 19 total saves in net, while defender Mackenzie Allen led the Panthers' defense.
BCS (7-3, 3-3) next plays Monday at home vs. Keswick Christian.
