Southeast rebounds with Dunedin rout

Southeast returned to the basketball court for the first time since a season-opening loss to Braden River on Wednesday with a district win against Dunedin at home. Ronald Taylor scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Seminole boys to a 66-42 rout of Dunedin. Cedric Brooks added 14 points for the Noles (1-1, 1-0 Class 5A-11) and Tre Alexandria led Southeast with four assists.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 76, SARASOTA 53 -- Shooting guard Ryan Leunk poured in 31 points and logged a double-double with 10 rebounds to help keep the Panthers unbeaten with a 76-53 win against the Sailors on Monday in Bradenton.

BCS (3-0, 1-0 Class 2A-District 9) had two others in double figures with guards Alex Telfair and Vincent Rhefeldt each scoring 11. Rhefeldt also added nine assists. The Sailors (2-2) were paced by sophomore Kaleb Fields with 20 points.

Bradenton Christian will play in the Thanksgiving Shoot-Out in Palmetto on Friday against St. Petersburg Gibbs.

TAMPA BROOKS DEBARTOLO COLLEGIATE 69, CARDINAL MOONEY 50 -- The Cougars slipped below .500 on Monday with a 69-50 loss to Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate in Tampa. Emmanuel Lambright scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Mateo Whelton added 15 and three assists. Nick Peacock also scored seven for the Cougars (1-2) against the Phoenix (2-1).

Mooney has now lost two in a row since a season-opening win and travels to Tampa Catholic on Tuesday.

Girls basketball

LAKEWOOD RANCH 60, TAMPA CATHOLIC 37 -- Five Mustangs scored in double figures Monday and Ranch cruised to a 60-37 win against the Crusaders in Tampa. Senior guard Kailyn Scully led Lakewood Ranch (4-0) with 16 points while adding four rebounds and five steals. Senior wing Elise Spiller added 12, and junior wing Aleah Robinson, sophomore small forward India Searls and senior guard Kyra Klarkowski all scored 10. Robinson and Searls also added nine and eight rebounds, respectively, against Tampa Catholic (5-2, 5-0 Class 4A-District 9). The Mustangs JV team also beat the Crusaders, 44-18, to reach 4-0.

Ranch travels to Orlando after Thanksgiving for the Florida Prospects tournament Friday where it'll play Colonial.

SOUTHEAST 58, DUNEDIN 5 -- For the second straight game, the Seminoles held their opponent without a field goal. After limiting St. Petersburg Gibbs to just a pair of free throws Friday, the host Noles blasted the Falcons, 58-5, while limiting Dunedin to five free throws.

Southeast (5-1, 2-0 Class 5A-District 11) played all 10 players for 16 minutes with Breyanna Reed pacing the offense with 17 points. Amoni Waiters and Sophie Giardina each added 11 points.

The Seminoles will spend Thanksgiving break in Sarasota when they play Tampa Wharton in the Sarasota High School Thanksgiving Invitational on Friday.

Boys soccer

PALMETTO 8, SARASOTA BOOKER 0 -- Six different players scored Monday and the Tigers shut out Booker for an 8-0 win in Palmetto. Jose Romero and Jorge Morales each scored twice for PHS, and David Garza, Fred Manriquez, Domingo Diaz and Ronaldo Suarez added one apiece.

The Tigers (3-3, 1-2 Class 5A-District 11) used two goalies as Danny Sanchez and Omar Olivera combined for a clean sheet against the Tornadoes (2-3, 0-2 Class 2A-District 11) with Oscar Ramon, Billy Pineda and Ryan Hirst playing stout defense in front of them.

PHS will host Tampa Prep on Tuesday before taking a week off for Thanksgiving.

Girls soccer

LAKEWOOD RANCH 6, PALMETTO 0 -- Julia Ortiz scored twice and the Mustangs shut out the Tigers for a 6-0 win Monday in Palmetto. Danielle Wilson and Kerstyn Kesgiroporoulos split time in net for Ranch (6-2, 1-1 Class 5A-District 8) as Alexandra Boudrea, Caitlin Klein, Sydney Wicks and Jules Egnew all added goals in front of them. The shutout was Lakewood Ranch's fifth this season.

Ranch now has a week off before facing rival Braden River on Monday. PHS (1-6, 0-3 Class 4A-District 11) faces the Pirates the next day.
