Southeast's Melissa Pineda bags a hat trick to lead Seminoles past Bayshore High in girls soccer action

A hat trick from Melissa Pineda, who added an assist, pushed visiting Southeast past the Bruins, 5-2, in a Class 3A-District 10 girls soccer contest. The Seminoles (2-1 overall, 1-0 district) received the other goals from Alex Tolksdorf and Diana Sanchez-Joynt. Gisselle Reyes added two assists. Freshman keeper Ciera Leary stopped eight shots for the victory. It was her third-ever game of soccer. Bayshore scorers were Ana Cruz and Reesie Karkoff. Southeast sticks with district action Thursday when the Noles host Largo.

BRADEN RIVER 4, PUNTA GORDA CHARLOTTE 0-- The Pirates churned out their attacking play in their district opener at home on Tuesday. Led by sophomore Kennedy McNab's two goals, the Pirates also received goals from junior Chrissy Penrod and sophomore Jaden Brown. Assists came from sophomore Cammie Lizardi (two), sophomore Lexi Madrid and sophomore Sara Kate Dyson. Junior keeper Mackenzie Moritz tallied six saves to keep a clean sheet for Braden River (2-1-1 overall). The Pirates next travel to Sarasota Military Academy on Thursday for a non-district match.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 4, CLEARWATER CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0-- The Mustangs blanked the Marauders on the road when Maddison Krstec (goal, two assists), Faith Chyck (goal), Sydney Wicks (goal), Jules Agnew (goal) found the net. Alexandra Boudreau and Caitlyn Klein added assists for the Mustangs, who are 4-0-0 this year and have allowed just one goal thus far.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 3, SAINT STEPHEN'S 0--The Thunder captured the Class 1A-District 7 home match in convincing fashion. Natalie Gorji, Abby Lagassee and Chloe Flanders each bagged goals, while keeper Chloe Spingler secured the clean sheet with seven saves. Madi Opstal (two) and Kat Pacitti (one) had the assists.

Girls basketball

LAKEWOOD RANCH 64, BAYSHORE 22-- The host Mustangs received big games from junior Aleyah Robinson (14 points, four steals), LaDazhia Williams (13 points, six rebounds), sophomore India Searls (13 points) and sophomore Kayla Bell (10 points, three steals) in the season-opening rout. Ranch next plays Monday at North Port.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 50, FORT MYERS CANTERBURY 35-- The Falcons secured a season-opening victory on the road Tuesday. Claudia Sbaschint led the way with 18 points, and next up is a non-district contest at Sarasota Christian on Thursday.

Boys basketball

CARDINAL MOONEY 66, SARASOTA 61 -- The Cougars edged the Sailors in a preseason game. Mooney, which begins the regular season next Tuesday, received double-digit scoring games from Emmanuel Lamberght (18 points, 10 rebounds), Nick Peacock (18 points, seven rebounds) and Matteo Whelton (14 points, four assists).
