Prep soccer | Lakewood Ranch boys, girls win; Braden River boys beat Southeast

CAPE CORAL -- Pablo Vargas had a goal and an assist, and Drew Butler scored a second goal, and that was all Lakewood Ranch's boys team needed on Monday night to beat Cape Coral Ida Baker 2-0 in the first game of the soccer season for both squads.

Tyler Tuhulvich had an assist on Vargas' goal. Goalkeeper William Bramley stopped six shots in the Mustangs' victory.

Also Monday, the Lakewood Ranch girls team beat Ida Baker 3-1 behind goals by Maria Gonzalez, Maddison Krstec and Saith Schyck. Each one also recorded an assist. The Mustangs kept up the pressure in their second win of the season, recording 18 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Julia Ortiz made three saves.

ELSEWHERE -- The Braden River boys (1-0) beat host Southeast 4-0. Two goals were scored by Kyle Villarante, and Michael Villarante and Domenic Aluise each had goals. Assists came from Kemal Indandi (2) and Michael Villarante. Jake Buffaline recorded the shutout, but Southeast had zero shots on goal.
