Bruins can't climb back against Hardee
This season Bayshore has not been able to muster up enough offense to stay in games, and Friday night was no different.
The Bruins were out-scored 21-0 in the first quarter to Hardee (4-2), before ultimately losing 38-15 in front of a packed crowd on homecoming night.
"They jumped out on us early with their strong running game, and we weren't able to recover," Bruins head coach Elijah Freeman said. "They had a great game plan and we weren't able to counter that in the first quarter."
Coming into the game, Bayshore was only averaging 6.6 points per contest, while being out paced 176-36 in six games.
Kai Washington led the Wildcats with 158 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown.
Washington's speed and quickness was complimented well with Parker Carlton's bruising downhill running game.
Carlton chipped in 58 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Hardee.
"Those two guys give us a dangerous running game," Wildcats head coach Buddy Martin said. "We can attack a defense with speed to the outside then counter it with slamming the ball up the gut. They complement each other very well."
The Bruins (1-6) were able to outscored Hardee 15-14 in the second half, scoring on the team's opening drive of the third quarter. Following the drive, the Bruins were able to force the Wildcats to a three-and-out before roughing the punter on fourth down.
"That seems to be our season, we make plays and have a chance to get back into a game, then we get a penalty or do something dumb," Freeman said. "It's too late in the season for us to not have that corrected."
Senior A'Shawn Angell led the Bruins with 70 rushing yards, scoring his first two touchdowns of the season.
"I've been out all season with a shoulder injury, so it was nice to get in and play," Angell said. "Our guys kept fighting, we didn't give up and I'm proud of them for that."
