Prep golf: Ranch girls, Thomeo take honors

BRADENTON -- Gabrielle Tomeo carded the day's low round of 34 to earn medalist honors to lead Manatee, but it was Lakewood Ranch who captured the team event in a girls golf tri-match with the Hurricanes and Sarasota Riverview Tuesday at the River Club.

Lakewood Ranch was led by Natalie Robinson, who shot a 39, and Theresa Morrissey (40) and scored 164 as a team, easily outdistancing Manatee (213) and Riverview (266).

Danielle Wolfe added a 47 for the Canes (4-2), who host Palmetto on Thursday at the Manatee County Golf Course.

ELSEWHERE -- Manatee's Michael Wood's 41 earned him medalist honors for Manatee, which edged Sarasota 173-175 in a nail-biter at IMG Academy Golf Club. Richard Bennett and Jesse Lawson each shot a 43 for the Hurricanes (4-6) who return to action Thursday at IMG in a tri-match with Bradenton Christian and Saint Stephen's. ... Landry Miller's 39 led the way for Bradenton Christian in a 165-210 win over Imagine School. Duncan Sikkema (41), Harrison Fuller (42) and Jack Knowles (43) also played well for the Panthers (7-3).
