The scoop: The Pirates are off to their best start in program history and received good news last Friday after their Thursday game at Sarasota was called off late in the fourth quarter following star defensive back JoJo Louis' scary neck injury. Louis was discharged from Blake Medical Center with negative results on a CT scan and X-ray. He could be back as early as Oct. 24 against North Port. ... The Pirates' offense with QB Jacob Huesman and the running of Carlos Crawford and Raymond Thomas should be too much for the Bruins to handle. ... Bayshore's issues have been discipline mixed with trying to find the right signal-caller to lead the offense. ... Teams often crowd the box anticipating a running play, due to the Bruins non-existent passing game. ... Chase Richardson played QB last week in place of Cody Linderman, who started the year under center, and backup Dylan Bresciani.

The scoop: This is one of four opponents from last season that decided to play the Ascenders again. ... IMG enters a possible trap game on the heels of knocking off then-No. 6 ranked St. Peter's (Jersey City, N.J.) Prep two weeks ago and last Friday's 61-0 blasting of tradition-rich Miami Gardens Pace, before next week's nationally televised rematch with Jacksonville Trinity Christian. ... IMG's offense didn't need much work because the special teams tallied four scores. ... Lake Minneola ended a three-game losing streak with a 35-19 victory at Mount Dora. ... The Hawks return home after four straight road games and have not been shut out this season. ... IMG's defense might be the first to do so.

St. Petersburg Northside Christian (3-2, 1-1 Class 2A-District 5) at Bradenton Christian (4-2, 1-2)

The scoop: Led by former Tampa Bay Buccaneers fullback Mike Alstott, the Mustangs feature a run-heavy offense. ... Senior RB Fionte Bell and junior RB Josh Snead have combined for 488 rushing yards and eight TDs. ... Bradenton Christian was overmatched against Class 2A's top-ranked team, Largo Indian Rocks Christian, last week. ... The Panthers gave up 414 yards of total offense. ... BCS' dwindling playoff hopes can be squashed with a loss, while a win leaves the Panthers mathematically alive.

St. Petersburg Keswick Christian (3-2, 2-1 Sunshine State Athletic Conference Bay Division) at Saint Stephen's (3-3, 1-3)

The scoop: Keswick is in a three-way tie for second place in the division, and the top two teams in each division make the playoffs. ... QB Parker Holland has thrown for 1,101 yard but has been picked off seven times in 125 attempts. He has thrown for 10 TDs. ... T.J. Muscarella is Holland's top target, pulling in 29 catches for 456 yards and five TDs, while Asher Thompson has 18 catches. ... Thompson also leads the team in tackles (54). ... The Falcons wrap the regular season next week at Out-of-Door Academy because the Sunshine State Conference uses the last two weeks for its playoffs. Saint Stephen's will play an additional two seeded games against conference teams from different divisions to help decide the final standdings. ... QB Fred Billy is fifth in the area in passing (541) and seventh in rushing (370). ... Garrett Barnes leads the Falcons with 44 tackles.

The scoop: A week after dropping a pivotal district game, the host Thunder get a chance to return to the win column Friday against winless Fort Myers Gateway Charter. ... The Griffins average just 168.4 total yards of offense a game. ... Gateway Charter has been blown out twice, but has three other losses by a combined 12 points. ... The Thunder gave up a season-high 52 points and 296 rushing yards in a 52-12 Class 3A-District 6 loss at Fort Myers Bishop Verot. ... The run defense had allowed 249 yards until last week. ... Look for ODA to get back on track, before next week's home tilt against Cardinal Mooney that will determine the Thunder's playoff fate.

The scoop: Coming off their bye week, the Cougars will be out to avenge last season's 35-34 Class 3A region quarterfinal playoff loss to the Barons. That game ended in controversial fashion when Sean Morris Jr. scored what appeared to be the tying touchdown with 1 minute, 32 seconds remaining. Morris was called for unsportsmanlike conduct for reaching the ball over the goal line as he scored, backing up the extra-point try by 15 yards. The try missed, and the Cougars came up a point short. ... There aren't many St. Petersburg Catholic players left from last year. Both 1,000-yard rushers, Tony Jones (IMG) and Jacquan Fuller (Indian Rocks Christian), transferred as did two other running backs and an offensive lineman. ... As a result, the Barons have been outscored 180-7. ... Cardinal Mooney is coming off a 20-7 loss against Tampa Catholic. ... The Cougars are hoping for good weather. It has played in a rainstorm or wet conditions in four of its five games.
