Braden River High makes girls weightlifting history. Here’s who qualified for states
Braden River High School’s girls weightlifting team made history Friday.
The Pirates won their first girls weightlifting region championship in program history. Braden River scored 32 points in the Olympic category to snag first place by three points over Zephyrhills in the Class 2A-Region 3 meet at New Port Richey River Ridge.
Twenty-two Braden River weightlifters competed.
It’s another accolade for the team after winning two consecutive Manatee County and district titles. The Pirates have gone unbeaten the past two regular seasons, too.
Lakewood Ranch High School took fifth place in the Olympic category at the 3A-3 meet held Saturday at St. Cloud High.
Saint Stephen’s placed sixth in the Olympic division at the 1A-4 meet held Saturday at Englewood Lemon Bay.
The top individual in each weight class for the Olympic category (snatch and clean and jerk) and traditional (clean and jerk and bench press) from the regional competition advances to the Florida High School Athletic Association state meet held Feb. 16-17 at Lakeland’s RP Funding Center.
Here’s who won a region title to book an automatic spot into the state meet from the county (weight class followed by name and school):

Class 2A
