Manatee County’s football players are already putting together memorable performances as the 2023-24 high school season heats up.
This week, we resume a weekly feature in which we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Manatee County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6.

Here are the candidates from last week’s games:
▪ Ean Johnson-Kelley, Manatee: The junior blocked a punt, while tallying four tackles, two TFL and one quarterback hurry in Manatee’s 52-6 win over Lakewood Ranch.
▪ Bon Bean Jr., Manatee: The senior caught six passes for 118 yards and a touchdown in the Hurricanes’ 52-6 win over Lakewood Ranch.
▪ Dustin Springfield, Parrish Community: The defensive end/linebacker had six tackles, two TFL, 1.5 sacks and a safety in the Bulls’ 22-3 win over Southeast.
▪Cameron Brewer, Saint Stephen’s: Brewer, a junior, ran for 201 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns on offense while adding four tackles, one TFL and one pass defended in the Falcons’ 32-8 win over Fort Myers Canterbury.
▪ Clay Ash, IMG Academy White: A senior, Ash ran for 283 yards on 26 carries and two touchdowns in the Ascenders’ 34-10 victory over Palmetto. He also had 33 receiving yards.
