Local roundup: Braden River girls soccer team scores 6-1 win over Palmetto
Brook Tyquinco scored a hat trick and three other players also found the back of the net as Braden River’s girls soccer team defeated Palmetto 6-1 on Thursday.
Olivia Conelias, Izzy Vasquez and Amelia Vasquez all scored for the Pirates (7-3 overall, 6-1 district), while four players had an assist — Savanah DeCastro, Ashley Tollner, Lexi Madrid and Emma Parrish.
Braden River is back in action Friday for a non-district game at Out of Door Academy.
BOYS SOCCER
Braden River 3, Palmetto 3: The host Pirates tied teh Tigers on the pitch, getting two goals from Kyle Nichols and one from Kyle Villarante.
Adan Escobar (two) and Oswaldo Herrera had assists for Braden River (5-2-1), and goalie Parker Grier had 12 saves.
The Pirates travel to Out-of-Door Academy on Friday night.
Lakewood Ranch 5, Manatee 1: The Mustangs (11-0, 5-0) stayed perfect behind a hat trick from Pablo Vargas and goals from Trevor Franko and Connor McManis. Travis Freeman had a pair of assists, while Josh Hays and Alex Thompson also had helpers. Goalkeeper Josh Lavieri made five saves to secure the win.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lakewood Ranch 61, Palmetto 19: India Searles had 16 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and three steals as the Mustangs rolled past the host Tigers.
Other top performers for Lakewood Ranch (9-4) included Kaitlin Bell (14 points, nine rebounds, two blocks) and Jessica Husel (10 points, two rebounds).
The Mustangs travel to undefeated North Port on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
Sarasota 54, Manatee 36: Sophomore Ophelia Lidge had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Hurricanes, who dropped to 7-3 with the loss to the Sailors.
Sophie Giardina and Kelly Brown led Sarasota (6-3) with 18 points.
Up next, Manatee travels to Venice for a 7:30 p.m. game Tuesday.
WRESTLING
Class 3A-8 district duals: Manatee lost 64-9 to Palm Harbor University High on Thursday, with senior Josh Booker (pin) and Brandon Dossey (10-3) winning their matches.
