Saint Stephen’s girls basketball team defeats Class 8A Pinellas Park
The Saint Stephen’s girls basketball team defeated Class 8A Pinellas Park 49-11 on Thursday in the St. Pete High Pre-Season Tip-Off Classic.
The top scorer for Saint Stephen’s was seventh-grader Jordyn Byrd with 13 points. She added 10 blocked shots and double-digit rebounds. Jamie Springstead scored 12 points, and Claudia Sbaschniks added 10. LeNae Hones chipped in nine.
Saint Stephens finished 1-1 in the tourney against two Class 8A opponents. The Falcons resume regular-season play Nov. 27 at home against Braden River.
Charlotte 45, Bradenton Christian 41: The Panthers fell in the preseason classic at Lemon Bay. Jessica Jackson led the Panthers with 17 points, including five three-pointers. BCS faces host North Port on Tuesday.
Boys soccer
Braden River 2, Sarasota 0: Goals by Grant Hill and Oswaldo Herrera carried the Pirates in their season opener over the host Sailors.
Nick Anderson added an assist, and goalie Parker Grier had five saves. The Pirates visit Palmetto on Nov. 28.
Saint Stephen’s 0, Riverview 0: The host Falcons (1-1-0) battled to a draw against the visiting Rams. Riverview outshot the Falcons 11-4. Falcons goalie Trevor Mulqueen registered seven saves. The Falcons host Bradenton Christian on Nov. 27.
Girls soccer
Braden River 4, Charlotte 2: The host Pirates prevailed over the Tarpons on goals by four separate players — Kennedy McNab, Izzy Vasquez, Sofia Mignote and Savanah DeCastro. McNab added an assist, and Emma Parrish tallied her first high school assist. Alexis Ballard recorded five saves in goal.
