Inspiration Academy launches boys soccer program with victory

Bradenton’s Inspiration Academy School launched its first-ever varsity boys soccer program with a 3-2 victory Monday at Sarasota Christian School.

About 15 minutes into the game, Lions forward Zvonko Bencedic netted Inspiration Academy’s first varsity soccer goal with an assist from Eli Fizer. Near the end of the first half, Fizer made another assist to midfielder Elias Fitzsimnons, who landed a header in the back of the net.

Sarasota Christian scored two goals in the second half and tied the game with 10 minutes left. Fizer, however, made a solo run down the middle of the field and netted his second goal of the day to give the Lions the final lead.

Girls soccer

Saint Stephen’s 7, Bradenton Christian 0: The visiting Falcons improved to 3-0 for the season with a non-district win over the Panthers (0-1).

Three players had two goals apiece: Ayla Johnston, Jacyln Schlossberg and K.K. Hart. Kendall Miller also scored.

Contributing assists were Schlossberg (3), Aubrey Dunbar, Johnston and Siddie Pennewill.

Emma Craig had six saves and earned her third shutout of season. The Falcons had 22 shots on goal.

Lakewood Ranch 0, Manatee 0 (tie): The Mustangs and Hurricanes both had 13 shots on goal, but neither team scored as the match ended in a draw.
