Braden River swimmer Kate Walker makes finals in two events at state meet
Braden River’s Kate Walker made the finals of two events Saturday at the Class 3A Swimming and Diving State Championships in Stuart.
Walker finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.92 and was sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.19 seconds at Sailfish Splashpark Aquatic Athletics Center.
Cross Country
State meet: Lakewood Ranch junior Jonathan Reid finished 10th Saturday in the Class 4A boys competition at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee with a time of 15:58.91.
Manatee senior Marcel Sanchez was 32nd with a time of 16:34.96.
In the 1A girls competition, Out-of-Door Academy placed 10th with 314 points, four spots ahead of Saint Stephen’s (387 points). Winter Park Circle Christian took first place with 72 points.
Saint Stephen’s senior Henry Howell was 86th in the 1A boys meet, sporting a time of 18:07.22. Manatee senior Raquel Lespasio finished 40th in the 4A girls meet with a time of 19:55.13.
Golf
City Amateur: There’s a four-way tie for first place after 18 holes at the 20th annual City of Bradenton Amateur Championship at River Run Golf Links.
Tied atop the leaderboard are Joe Clarkson, Scott Cox, Stefan Strandlund and Ray Wenck, who all shot 70. Phil Walters is one shot back at 71, followed by Tim Judy (72) and Joshua Perna (73). The final round is Sunday.
