Mustangs golfers 6th, 11th at state; Manatee’s Tomeo 7th overall

Lakewood Ranch’s girls golf team tied for sixth in the FHSAA Girls Class 3A finals on Saturday at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills.

The Mustangs boys team, meanwhile, tied for 11th place.

In individual girls competition, Manatee senior Gabrielle Tomeo tied for seventh place overall with a one-over par 73. Medalist Erika Smith of Lake Nona finished with a 70.

The Lakewood Ranch girls team tied with Tampa George Steinbrenner in Class 3A competition with a score of 329. Individual scores for the Mustangs on Saturday were Darby Laurvick (81); Ashleigh Angelo (82); Natalie Robson (83); Ashlyn Einwachter (83); and Ashley Ringo (90).

Niceville (297) won the girls team title, followed by Lake Mary.

The Lakewood Ranch boys team had rounds of 328 on both Friday and Saturday and tied for 11th with Tallahassee Chiles. Individual scores for the Mustangs were Mike Wijas (79-80—159); Drew Angelo (81-78—159); Matt Bruton (82-83—165); Dylan Gabbart (86-89—175); and Mark Bruton (94-87—181).

Gulf Coast took top honors in Class 3A with a team score of 615, a stroke better than No. 2 Forest.
