District volleyball: Saint Stephen’s, Southeast, Bayshore sweep in 1st round
Three high school volleyball teams from Manatee County — Saint Stephen’s, Southeast and Bayshore — all swept the opposition Monday during the opening-round of district tournament competition.
The Saint Stephen’s Falcons hosted the Imagine School of North Port, winning by scores of 25-19, 25-11, 25-12.
The Falcons face Bradenton Christian School in the second round at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Top players were Sophie Bilik (28 assists, eight digs, five aces); Jordyn Byrd (11 kills, six blocks); and Alyson Folkens (six aces, nine digs).
At Southeast, the Seminoles breezed pas St. Petersburg Lakewood by scores of 25-16, 25-10, 25-16.
Top players were Danielle Marler (17 aces, six kills); Ambriel Jones (14 assists, 13 digs, eight attacks, three aces); Lirian Hernandez (28 assists, three digs); Maxine Maldonado (23 assists, seven digs); and Tira Perkins (nine kills, nine attacks).
The Noles advance to face host Dunedin at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
At Bayshore, the host Bruins finished off St. Petersburg Gibbs by scores of 25-19, 25-12, 26-24.
Bayshore advances to face host Tarpon Springs at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Top players were Kearra Kelley (six aces); Maddy Olson (five assists); Briana Mays (four kills); and Haley Sauve (four kills).
