Prep roundup: Southeast volleyball team sweeps St. Petersburg Gibbs

Ambriel Jones had 19 serves received, eight assists, seven aces and five digs to help host Southeast High defeat St. Petersburg Gibbs 25-9, 25-8, 25-16 on Wednesday.

Other top players for the Seminoles included Brooke Washington (12 assists, 7 aces, 5 kills, 5 attacks), Maxine Maldonado (18 assists, 3 aces), Tira Perkins (7 kills, 6 attacks) and Danielle Marler (3 aces, 3 kills).

Southeast travels to St. Pete Lakewood to take on the Spartans at 7 p.m. Monday.

TARPON SPRINGS 3, BAYSHORE 0

The Bruins lost 25-12, 25-14, 25-19 to fall to 10-10 this season, 1-3 in district play.

Top performers for Bayshore included Briana Mays (7 kills), Kenia Cuqui-Belli (5 kills), Haley Sauve (4 kills) and Hanna Crum (16 assists, 6 digs).

The Bruins play Gibbs on the road Thursday.

LAKEWOOD RANCH WINS QUAD MATCH

Three players tied for medalist honors Wednesday on the Kings Dunes course at Lakewood Ranch Country Club.

Drew Angelo and Mark Bruton both had a match-best 36 for Lakewood Ranch (147 team score, 31-3 record). They were followed closely by two other Mustangs, Matt Bruton (37) and Dylan Gabbart (38).

Alan Klenor led Saint Stephen’s (151) with a 36, followed by David Hu (37), Massimo Mbetse (38) and Ryan Kinkead (40).

Qualifying scores for Out-of-Door Academy (162) were Jim Cai (37), Max Coutsolioutsos (40), Wyatt Plattner (42) and Jake Nease (43).

And finally, the top four scores for Braden River (177) came from Brian Choi (41), Thomas McClellen (44), Noah Cronin (46) and Calvin Hedgepeth (46).

Lakewood Ranch, Saint Stephen’s and Braden River will all compete in the Manatee County Championship Saturday at Buffalo Creek.

GIRLS GOLF

LAKEWOOD RANCH WINS TRI MATCH

The Mustangs (166 team total) defeat Sarasota Riveriew (196) and Saint Stephen’s (203) at The River Club.

The Mustangs, who improved to 28-3, were led by Natalie Robson (40), Darby Laurvick (40), Ashleigh Angelo (42) and Ashlyn Einwachter (44).

FRESHMEN FOOTBALL

PALMETTO 34, RIVERVIEW 7

Sagel Hickson threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores to lead the Tigers, who are now 5-0.
