Local roundup: State College of Florida volleyball team wins conference opener

Eliska Truneckova had 10 kills, 15 digs and 14 assists to help lead the State College of Florida volleyball team to a 25-19, 25-22, 25-22 victory against host Hillsborough CC on Tuesday in the Suncoast Conference opener for both teams.

Brandi McGee had 19 assists and 10 digs for SCF, which improved its record to 4-15 overall. Henrike Axt had 13 kills and two blocks.

Up next, the Manatees hit the road again to face St. Petersburg College at 6 p.m. Thursday.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 3, ST. PETE CANTERBURY 0

Madison Allen had 10 kills, six digs and six aces as the Panthers rolled to a 25-3, 25-5, 25-6 victory.

Other standouts included Emma Laade (six kills), McKenzie James (9 assists, 7 digs, 5 aces), Emily Eurice (22 assists, 5 aces) and Ashley Waldo (17 digs).

BOYS GOLF

MANATEE 103, BAYSHORE 133

Michael Wood took medalist honors with a 21 as the Hurricanes (1-7-1) got their first win of the season, defeating the Bruins (0-4) in a five-hole match.

Other qualifying scores for Manatee included Gabe Arendt (25), Caleb Arendt (26) and Matt Wood (31).

Bayshore was led by Robert Jimenez (25), followed by Vasson Vafiedes (29), Kenny Perren (39) and Shawn Adkins (40).

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 156, SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 174

Max Coutsolioutsos took medalist honors with a 34, leading ODA (3-3) to victory on the Cypress Links course at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.

Other qualifying scores for the Thunder included Jake Naese (39), John Vickery (41) and Chris Heller (42).

Sarasota Christian was led by Finn Deutz’s 39.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 202, NORTH PORT IMAGINE 282

Noah Cone’s 38 was good for medalist honors as BCS improved to 4-5 with a victory at Riverwood in Port Charlotte.

Cone was followed by Jack Knowles (42), Bryson Morishita (58) and Alexis Sikkema (64).

Imagine (0-6) was led by Brody Layne’s 59.
