Bradenton Christian starts grueling stretch with victory over Gateway Charter
The first of three games in the span of a week gave the Bradenton Christian School players all the confidence they will need to get them through what will be a grueling schedule with a 30-14 win over Fort Myers Gateway Charter.
Travis Windham and the Panthers offense were able to get going early and often with six first downs on their first drive. Windham was playing his first full game as a starting running back.
(Windham) is not a natural running back but he is a natural athlete,” head coach Daniel Fort said. “And tonight he showed he is learning the position.”
Windham was able to convert the first two drives into touchdowns with 2-yard scores on each possession.
The defense made its mark with a safety, helping the Panthers jump out to a 16-0 lead.
The quick start by Bradenton Christian would not deter Gateway as they continued to battle throughout the contest. Quarterback Tyious Savoy was able to make some big plays by throwing the ball high and deep and allowing his receivers to make plays. This resulted in two long touchdowns for the quarterback.
Bradenton Christian iced the game in the fourth quarter with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Zach Seagreaves to Winston Spencer.
Bradenton Christian will play again Monday against Shorecrest Prep as the Panthers make up a game postponed by Hurricane Irma.
