Prep roundup: ODA tops BCS, Manatee in boys golf match
Three players tied for medalist honors at even-par 36 as Out-of-Door Academy’s boys golf team defeated Bradenton Christian and Manatee High on Thursday at IMG Academy Golf Club.
Max Coutsiolousos and Jim Cai both shot 36 for ODA (156 team total, 2-3 record), whose other qualifying scores were a pair of 42s from Wyatt Plattner and Chris Heller.
Noah Cone also shot 36 for BCS (184, 3-5), his first time shooting even par in a match. He was followed by Jack Knowles (38), Bryson Morishita (56) and Alexis Sikkema (56).
For Manatee (204, 0-7), Mike Wood led the way with a 37, followed by Matt Wood (53), Caleb Arendt (57) and Grant Lantham (57).
PALMETTO 194, BAYSHORE 236
The Tigers defeated the host Bruins (0-3) at Manatee County Course to improve to 4-3-1.
Tyler McLeod led Palmetto with a 45, and Robert Jimenez had the low score for Bayshore, a 48.
LAKEWOOD RANCH 157 VENICE 160
The Mustangs’ Drew Angelo and the Indians’ Dean Badger tied for medalist honors, shooting 38 at Misty Creek Country Club.
Lakewood Ranch’s record is now 28-3 this season. Other qualifying scores for the Mustangs included Matt Bruton (39), Mike Wijas (40) and Dylan Gabbart (40).
For Venice, Badger was followed by Zeek Sigmond (39), Louis Fiumara (40) and Gain Laowatdhanasapya (43).
On Wednesday, Lakewood hosts Braden River, Out-of-Door Academy and Saint Stephen’s at Lakewood Ranch Country Club.

SOUTHEAST 3, BAYSHORE 1
The Seminoles picked up a big district victory on the road, defeating the Bruins 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21.
Top players for Southeast included Ambriel Jones (26 serves received, 16 assists, 16 digs, 4 attacks), Brooke Washington (17 assists, 14 attacks, 8 kills, 5 aces), Maxine Maldonado (28 assists, 5 digs), Tira Perkins (13 serves received, 12 attacks, 10 kills), Danielle Marler (11 serves received, 5 attacks, 3 aces, 3 digs), Reegan Cole (6 kills, 6 blocks, 2 attacks) and Shay Holt (10 serves received, 6 digs).
Southeast hosts Palmetto at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Haley Sauve had seven kills for Bayshore (6-7), and Kenia Cuqui-Bello added six kills.
FRESHMEN FOOTBALL
PALMETTO 43, BRADEN RIVER 20
The Tigers improved to 4-0 with a victory over the Pirates on Wednesday night. Sagel Hickson, EJ Bell and Jabari Dunbar all scored touchdowns for Palmetto.
