Local roundup: Palmetto rallies to defeat Bayshore in volleyball

Palmetto rallied after dropping the first two games to defeat Bayshore 23-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-8 on Monday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Tigers were able to clean up their errors as the match went on and capitalized on errors from the Bruins.

Bayshore top performers included Hannah Crum (53 sets), Michon Golfin (37 sets), Briana Mays (9 kills), Ky Parsley (4 kills, 3 blocks) and Maddy Olson 10 digs, 9 aces.

Braden River 3, Out-of-Door Academy 0

Braden River opened the volleyball season Tuesday with a 25-13, 25-16, 25-13 win against ODA.

Top performers for the Pirates included Sydney Jaco (13 kills, 15 digs) and Olivia Perez (25 assists, 3 kills, 3 aces).

JV: ODA 25-22, 26-24; Freshman: Braden River 25-11, 25-14.

Saint Stephen’s 3, Palmetto 0

Saint Stephen’s opened its volleyball season with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-14 victory over Palmetto (1-1).

The Falcons travel to Braden River on Thursday.

Top performers included Sophie Bilik (23 assists, 9 aces, 2 blocks, 6 digs), Kate Folkens (10 digs, 5 aces, 4 kills) and Jordyn Byrd (4 kills, 3 digs).

Englewood Lemon Bay 3, Bradenton Christian 2

The Panthers dropped to 1-1 this season as Lemon Bay topped BCS 25-18, 16-25, 26-24, 24-26, 15-10.

Top performers for the Panthers included Emily Eurice (36 assists), Ashley Waldo (25 digs), Maddy Allen (23 digs, 11 kills) and Amy Van Ryn (13 kills).

BCS hosts Gulf Coast HEAT at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Daytona 3, State College of Florida 0

The Manatees fell to host Daytona 25-12, 25-11, 25-17 in the regular season opener.

SCF’s top players included Eliska Truneckova (9 kills, 3 digs, 2 blocks) and Jayleen Abregana (4 kills, 5 digs).

The Manatees host Polk State at 3 p.m. Friday.

Lakewood Ranch wins quad match

Lakewood Ranch starts the season with high expectations, and the Mustangs are off to a good start with a quad match victory over Riverview, Braden River and Charlotte on Tuesday.

Top scorers for Lakewood Ranch, which had a 164 total score, included co-medalist Ashleigh Angelo (35), Natalie Robson (40), Ashley Ringo (44) and Ashlyn Einwachter (45).

Riverview was second at 177, followed by Braden River (183) and Charlotte (190).
