Golf Plus | Bradenton's Samuel Chavez takes second in West Florida Golf Tour event

Bradenton's Samuel Chavez fired a 4-under par 68 in Wednesday's West Florida Golf Tour stop at Dade City's Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club, but he had to settle for the second-place prize money of $400 after succumbing to Clearwater's Jon Mansfield in a playoff.

IMG Academy golfer Jaravee Boonchant tied for third place in the girls division of the recent TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior held at Palm Harbor's Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club. Boonchant fired rounds of 75, 72 and 73 for a 220 total to finish three shots behind Texas' Grace Ni's winning total in the American Junior Golf Association event.

Bradenton's Lei Ye also logged a top 10 finish by recording a 221 total to take fifth place.

Bradenton Christian senior Landry Miller is following his older brother, Jordan, into the college golf ranks. Landry signed with Southeastern University on a golf scholarship on Wednesday. Miller captured the Manatee County individual championship last fall with an even-par 72 at Buffalo Creek Golf Course, before leading the Panthers into the Class 1A-Region 6 tournament.

Registration closes Thursday for area junior golfers looking to play in the Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association's Winter Tour Series event this Sunday at Misty Creek Country Club in Sarasota.

It's $40 to enter for 18-holers ages 18-and-younger with just 75 spots available.

On Saturday, Feb. 27 at Pinebrook/Ironwood Golf Club, Cindy Lesch aced the 78-yard third hole with a 6-iron. Witnesses were Joan Slattery, Jim Bushofsky and Frank Panetta.

On Friday, March 4 at Pinebrook/Ironwood Golf Club, Larry Waterman aced the 189-yard seventh hole with a 7-iron. Witnesses were Pat Roder, Matt Faul and Nathan Hayed.

On Monday, March 7 at Pinebrook/Ironwood Golf Club, George Nagel Jr. aced the 122-yard 17th hole with a 7-iron. Witnesses were Russ Newman, Rick Newstead and John Cemmins.

On Wednesday, March 23 at Peridia Golf and Country Club, George Derby aced the 160-yard 11th hole with a 7-iron. Witnesses were Dennis Campbell, Andy Olsen and Roger Wick.

On Friday, March 25 at River Run Golf Links, John Rothenburg aced the 158-yard, par-3 15th hole using a 6-iron. Jim White, Larry Burr and Dave Lindbalm witnessed the shot.

On Saturday, March 26 at IMG Academy Golf Club, Richard Poisson aced the 131-yard 11th hole with an 8-iron. Witnesses were Chuck Birchall and Bruce Smith.

On Saturday, March 26 at IMG Academy Golf Club, John McGurn aced the 188-yard 16th hole with a 5-wood. Witnessed by Jonathan Epstein.

On Sunday, March 27 at Greens of Manatee, Wayne Dennis aced the 116-yard 13th hole with a 7-iron. Witnesses were Dave Richardson, Curt Simmons and Marj Dennis.

On Sunday, March 27, Kendra Presswood aced the 107-yard 17th at Terra Ceia Bay using a 7-iron.

On Monday, March 28, Jim Allard aced the 112-yard 17th at Terra Ceia Bay using a wedge. Bob Powers and Dick Kanline wtnessed the shot.
