Bradenton Christian alum Philip Knowles tied for 27th at the New Year's Invitational last Sunday. Knowles, a University of North Florida freshman golfer, held the first-round lead of the 90th edition of the New Year's tournament at St. Petersburg Country Club. Knowles, though, followed up his opening round 68 with two 74s and a 77 in the final round to tie for 27th place.

Indiana's Adam Schenk, who claimed the Bobby Jones Open last year, posted a scorching 12-under 201 total for the victory at last week's West Florida Golf Tour's Florida Championship held at World Woods Golf Club in Brooksville. Schenk ripped off three straight sub-70 rounds highlighted by a 65 in the second round to collect the $7,000 first-place prize. On Monday, the WFGT returned to Manatee County with a stop at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. Larry O'Brien picked up his second career WFGT victory with a 5-under par 67. That was one better than Bradenton's Sean Jacklin as O'Brien scooped up $1,000 for the win.
