Golfers for U.S. Concession Cup team announced; tourney is next year in East Manatee

EAST MANATEE -- The United States team for next year's Concession Cup was announced Monday.

The biennial Ryder Cup-styled golf tournament is back for a second time at The Concession Golf Club in East Manatee on April 20-24.

The tournament pits the top amateurs from the U.S. against Great Britain & Ireland.

The United States won the inaugural event in 2014 with a 21 1/2-14 1/2 victory.

Vinny Giles is back to captain Team USA as is Garth McGimpsey for GB&I.

Eight automatic spots for the U.S. were determined last month, while the remaining berths were unveiled Monday.

The U.S. team roster includes: Scott Harvey, Mike McCoy, Joe Alfieri, Todd White, Pat Christovich, Tim Jackson, Sammy Schmitz, Nathan Smith, Doug Hanzel, Brady Exber, Bob Kearney, Jack Hall, Chip Lutz, Bryan Norton, Paul Simson, Pat Tallent, Jim Holtgrieve and captain Vinny Giles.

The team is represented by eight mid-amateurs, eight seniors and two players aged 65-and-older.

Alfieri, Christovich, Schmitz, Exber, Kearney, Hall and Norton are first-time players in the event.

The GB&I team has yet to be determined. The selection process started in September, and is ongoing.
