Bradenton's Philip Knowles went unbeaten (3-0-0) during the Florida Junior Cup for the South Team at Vero Beach Country Club this past Monday and Tuesday.
The North Team retained the cup with a 19-13 victory.
Knowles teamed with Spencer Alexander for a 2-up victory over Patrick Mills and Logan Membrino in Monday's four-ball session, before earning a 1-up win in the foursome session with Sydney Shrader over Brandon Mancheno and Terese Romeo.
Knowles closed out his junior career with a 1-up victory in singles action over Colin Kresl.
Bradenton's Samuel Chavez took down the West Florida Golf Tour's three-day Summer Tour event at Sara Bay Country Club last week. Chavez scooped up more than $3,000 in earnings for his six-shot victory. He compiled a 10-under-par total for 54 holes, while Bradenton's Domenico Geminiani took second place.
Bobby Jones Golf Club's golf shop will have merchandise that is tax free to celebrate the Florida Sales Tax Holiday starting Friday. Eligible merchandise -- which includes shirts, shorts, pants, hats, socks, belts and spiked/cleated shoes that cost $100 or less -- are tax free from Friday through Sunday. Golf gloves are not included. The pro shop is open from 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. every day.
On July 21 at Greens of Manatee, 15-year-old Nicolo Tucci aced the 105-yard 12th hole with a 7-iron during the second round of golf of his life. Witnesses were Stanley Tucci and Joan Tucci. Nicolo Tucci, who lives in the United Kingdom, is the son of actor Stanley Tucci, but he was playing with his grandfather, also named Stanley Tucci.
