Lamar Jackson and Donald Trump recently traded tweets. Some thought it was an endorsement
Lamar Jackson likely didn’t expect President Donald Trump to acknowledge him on Twitter during the weekend.
But that’s exactly what happened Saturday afternoon when Jackson quote tweeted a video of his former Louisville teammate Jaire Alexander’s reaction to the reigning NFL MVP being drafted. It was a beautiful moment with Alexander, hyped as can be, jumping around and fist pumping.
Then came the President.
Jackson responded a short time later, using the South Florida slang “truzz.”
“Truzz,” which Jackson recently included in a massive chest tattoo, loosely translates to “I’m agreeing with you.” The term is also a different way of spelling “truss,” an oft-used word during the Baltimore Ravens’ 2019 season. Twitter, however, thought the Broward native had joined the Kanye West in MAGA land and wasn’t having any of it.
Assuming “truzz” meant “trust” wouldn’t be the biggest jump ever yet it totally muddies the meaning of Jackson’s tweet. All he did was agree with the President that one, Alexander’s support was amazing, and two, the Ravens did make the right pick. It definitely wasn’t a presidential endorsement, considering his response to being admitted to the MAGA GroupMe.
Jackson, who the Ravens selected with the No. 32 pick of the 2018 draft, was the fifth and final quarterback off the board in the first round. In just his first year as a full-time starter, the 21-year-old broke the single-season quarterback rushing record and posted the best touchdown to interception ratio of the five.
