Softball: SCF splits pair with Central Florida

BRADENTON -- State College of Florida bounced back from a 7-0 loss to College of Central Florida in the first game to split Friday's doubleheader with a 6-4 win.

Brandi Bunker went 2 for 3 in the first game and 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs in the second. Kassidy Neptune added a hit in each game. Kayla Matthews (14-8) took the loss in the opener, and Jessica Reid (18-6) won the nightcap for SCF (32-16).

In the second game, Cacey Simmons went 2 for 2, and DArby Bernaldo added a hit. The Manatees' play next Friday in the state tournament in Vero Beach.


Hillsborough CC 10, SCF 8 -- Ronny Orta allowed seven runs on 12 hits in six innings as the visiting Manatees dropped the finale of the three-game set. Andrew Dilacqua went 2 for 5, including a two-run home run, for SCF. Jared Pruett added a two-run double, and Reilly Johnson finished 3 for 5. SCF (29-20, 14-13) travels to Polk C.C. on Saturday.
