St. Stephen's wins dramatic extra-inning tilt

BRADENTON -- Saint Stephen's scored the game-winning run on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the eighth inning to earn an 8-7 victory against St. Pete Catholic in Class 3A-District 5 action Thursday.

The run made a winner out of reliever Caleb Eyre, who allowed one run in two innings.

Saint Stephen's scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead only to have St. Pete Catholic tie the game in the top of the seventh, setting up extra innings.

JT Lund led Saint Stephen's at the plate, going 3 for 4 with an RBI. Jake Westberry went for 2 for 4

Saint Stephen's (11-10, 9-6) returns to action Friday at at Indian Rocks in a district game.

Palmetto 3, Island Coast 2 -- Jacob Josey's two-run triple erased a one-run deficit and Josey made it stand up, pitching the final 1 1/3 innings to earn the save for Palmetto (15-7). Josey's efforts gave reliever Hunter Finner the victory. Finner allowed one hit in 1 2/3 innings.

At the plate, Harrison Thiel went 2 for 3, including a double for Palmetto, which returns to action 7 p.m. Monday at Braden River.

NORTHSIDE CHRISTIAN 11, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 4 -- The visitors took the loss.

State College of Florida 7-3, South Florida 6-2 -- SCF produced two clutch game-winning hits in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday to sweep the doubleheader.

Jessica Reid was the winning pitcher in both games to improve to 17-4.

Jaimie Harney went 2 for 4 with the game-winning RBI in the seventh inning of the opener. Other top SCF hitters included Brandi Bunker (3 for 4 with 2 RBIs), Erica Ward (2 for 4) and Kassidy Neptune (1 for 4 with an RBI.)

In the nightcap, Brittany Gilliam went 1 for 4 with the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh. Other top SCF hitters included Savannah Money (2 for 4, Bunker (2 for 4 with an RBI) and Ward (2 for 4 with an RBI.)

SCF, 29-10 overall and 13-3 in the Suncoast Conference, plays at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday on Sophomore Day against Santa Fe.

Bradenton Christian School to host golf tournament -- Bradenton Christian School will host the 2016 Bouwer Cup Golf Tournament on April 23 in Parrish, officials announced. The tournament was named the Bouwer Cup years ago to honor Don and Marilyn Bouwer, one of Bradenton Christian School's founding families.

The $125 cost includes all greens fees, golf cart, golf shirt, awards and dinner. Proceeds support the Christian education offered at Bradenton Christian School.

The event will be a scramble format with a shotgun start scheduled for 1 p.m. To register go online to bcspanthers.org.
