Local roundup | Lakewood Ranch Mustangs sweep softball doubleheader

Lakewood Ranch beat Fort Meade and DeSoto County in a softball doubleheader in Arcadia on Saturday.

The Mustangs beat Fort Meade 9-7 in the day's first game behind Maddie Locastro, who hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and earned the win with three innings of relief.

Maddie Yoder added two hits and two RBIs as part of Lakewood Ranch's 11 hits.

In the second game, Lakewood Ranch won 13-0 in a game stopped in the fifth inning because of the mercy rule. Kailey Christian pitched four innings for the win. Denali Schappacher went 3 for 3 with three runs scored. MacKenzie Meyers went 3 for 3 with four RBIs. Morgan Cummins and Christian homered.

Lakewood Ranch (5-1) returns to action Tuesday at Palmetto.

JUCO baseball

SCF 4-9, Florida State College 1-7 -- Scotty Kelly (2-0) pitched six shutout innings and Andrew Dilaqua hit a two-run homer in the four-run third inning as the State College of Florida swept a doubleheader in Jacksonville. Ethan Skender and Tyler Romanik both went 2 for 4 and Kevin Buckley homered.

In the second game, SCF won 9-7 behind a six-run seventh inning. The Manatees trailed 6-3 entering the inning.

Keshawn Lynch hit a three-run homer that tied the game, and Skender laced an RBI single to score Ryan Miller from second with the go-ahead run. Riley Johnson's two-run single capped the inning, giving SCF (9-2) needed insurance when Florida State College pushed across a run in the bottom of the inning.

Scott Stout earned the win with one inning of relief. He struck out all three batters he faced. Vladimir Nunez pitched two-thirds of an inning for the save

JUCO softball

SCF 12-0, Sante Fe 5-1 -- Erica Ward's three-run homer in the first inning set the tone as State College of Florida (6-3) outslugged Santa Fe 12-5 in the first game of a doubleheader. Savannah Money went 3 for 5 while both Kassidy Neptune and Jaimie Harney went 2 for 4. Kayla Maxwell tossed a complete game.

In the second game, Maxwell took the loss in the 1-0 decision. Jessica Harney went 2 for 3. Santa Fe scored in the third inning.

SCF returns to action at St. John's River on Tuesday.
