Okaro White scored a career-high 20 points and added seven rebounds as host Florida State halted a three-game losing streak with a 76-51 win over Charleston Southern on Monday night.

Michael Snaer scored 13 points, placing him in double figures in scoring for the fifth straight game. Bernard James and Xavier Gibson had 12 points each for the Seminoles (6-3), with Gibson grabbing seven rebounds and James six.

Saah Nimley and Kelvin Martin had 13 points apiece for Charleston Southern (5-3), which started three freshmen and shot just 29.8 percent (17 of 57) from the floor.

FSU used an early 20-2 run to grab a 25-7 lead with 10:13 left in the first half. Charleston Southern had more turnovers in the first half (11) than baskets (five).

State men

FAMU 95, ALLEN 65 -- Yannick Crowder had 15 points, 13 rebounds, seven blocks and four steals to lead the Rattlers over the visiting Yellow Jackets, an NAIA school, for their first win of the season. The Rattlers (1-7, 1-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) tallied 25 steals, in forcing 28 turnovers.

(9) MIAMI 92, (11) RUTGERS 81 (2OT) -- Riquna Williams scored a career-high 36 points, including a pair of 3-pointers to start the second overtime, and the Hurricanes rallied from a 16-point second-half deficit to beat the visiting Scarlett Knights.


DICK VITALE -- The University of Detroit Mercy has honored a former coach and athletic director who turned into a college basketball icon. The school unveiled Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall before the Titans hosted St. John’s. The Lakewood Ranch resident was celebrated on the 32nd anniversary of being an analyst for ESPN. Vitale led Detroit to the NCAA tournament in 1977 after earning a bid by beating eventual champion Marquette coached by Al McGuire in Milwaukee.

FLORIDA -- Gators forward Erik Murphy has been cleared to play after missing the last three games with a knee injury. Coach Billy Donovan says Murphy, a 6-foot-10 junior averaging 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds, is expected to play when the 12th-ranked Gators host Arizona on Wednesday night.

UTAH -- Utes starting point guard Josh Watkins has been suspended indefinitely for undisclosed conduct detrimental to the team.

Coach Larry Krystkowiak issued a statement saying Watkins will not participate in any team activities until he has met certain obligations. The Utes are 1-6 and off to their worst start in history under the first-year coach.

MEN’S TOP 25 -- Harvard is in The Associated Press’ Top 25 for the first time.

The Crimson are off to an 8-0 start that includes a win over then-ranked Florida State.

WOMEN’S TOP 25 -- Baylor is the unanimous choice as the No. 1 team in The AP women’s college basketball poll. Connecticut and Notre Dame remain second and third. Stanford, Maryland, Duke and Tennessee Duke all move up in front of Texas A&M.
